WBP Okoumé (Aucoumea klaineana)

Okoumé WBP Plywood

Water and boil-proof plywood with a 100% Okoumé core and face. Bond tested to EN 314 — minimum 72 h in boiling water without delamination. The smoothest surface in the range for CNC work; the standard choice for marine interiors, wet-area panels, and moisture-exposed structural applications.

WBP stands for Water and Boil-Proof. It refers to the adhesive bond class tested under EN 314 — the panel must withstand a minimum of 72 hours fully submerged in boiling water without delamination. A claim about glue line performance under extreme moisture, not about the wood species itself.

WBP certifies adhesive bond performance, not structural hull certification. For full marine hull applications requiring Lloyd's or BS 1088 certification, see our Marine BS1088 Ceiba. WBP Okoumé is well-suited for marine interiors, cabinetry, wet-area panels, and van/trailer flooring.

Standard construction pine plywood typically runs 550–650 kg/m³. At 530–560 kg/m³, Okoumé WBP is on the lighter end of that range — a meaningful difference when handling large-format 4′×8′ sheets, while maintaining the rigidity expected from a high-quality panel.

Okoumé offers the smoothest and most consistent surface of the four panels in our range. The homogeneous core minimizes voids that cause tool deflection or tearout, and the face veneers are well-sanded from the mill. It machines cleanly at conventional feed rates with no special process changes.

Retail quantities are available through our partner stores. For direct orders, minimum quantities and pricing depend on your account type — see the Pricing section or submit an RFQ.

UL Falcata (Paraserianthes falcataria)

Ultra-Lite Plywood

About half the weight of standard plywood. Falcata's naturally low density — 360–400 kg/m³ — makes this the panel of choice where every kilogram matters: van builds, RV conversions, tiny homes on wheels, and tradeshow booths where weight reduction affects fuel efficiency, payload, or towing compliance.

Standard construction plywood (pine, birch) runs 550–700 kg/m³. At 360–400 kg/m³, Ultra-Lite Falcata is approximately 40–50% lighter by volume. An 18 mm 4′×8′ sheet weighs roughly 16–18 kg vs. 24–28 kg for a comparable standard sheet — a significant handling and payload difference across a full build.

Ultra-Lite is well-suited for non-primary structural panels — wall cladding, ceiling, cabinetry substrate, booth skins. Its lower density means reduced bending stiffness; it is not recommended for high-load spanning. For structural flooring in a van or THOW, specify Okoumé WBP instead.

Yes. The adhesive meets CARB Phase II / EPA formaldehyde emission standards (E-1), making it suitable for enclosed interior environments including RV and van living spaces.

Yes. Run at approximately 20,000 RPM, use a compression bit, ensure sharp tooling, and calibrate feed speed carefully. Both hold-down vacuum and chip evacuation must be at full capacity — debris re-entering the cut zone on low-density wood increases friction, heat, and chipping. Once dialed in, it machines consistently.

Ultra-Lite uses a Type II (moisture-resistant) glue — suitable for occasional or indirect moisture exposure. It is not WBP-rated and should not be used in continuously wet conditions. For high-moisture environments, specify Okoumé WBP or Marine BS1088 Ceiba.

BS1088 Ceiba (Ceiba pentandra)

Lightweight Marine Plywood BS 1088

Marine-grade Ceiba plywood certified to BS 1088 — the benchmark standard for marine construction. Combines a low-density Ceiba core with the full bond and veneer quality requirements of BS 1088, delivering marine performance at a meaningfully reduced panel weight vs. Okoumé.

BS 1088 is the British Standard for marine plywood — widely recognized as the benchmark specification globally. It mandates a WBP-rated adhesive bond, specific face veneer grade requirements, no core gaps beyond tight tolerances, and consistent thickness throughout. It is the specification most marine builders, surveyors, and naval architects require when structural reliability in a wet environment is non-negotiable.

Both are established marine species. Okoumé (530–560 kg/m³) is denser and has a longer track record in European marine building. Ceiba at 380–420 kg/m³ is meaningfully lighter, which matters for performance watercraft and weight-sensitive builds. The right choice depends on your weight budget and classification society requirements.

Acceptance depends on the specific classification society (Lloyd's, Bureau Veritas, DNV, etc.) and the structural role of the panel in your build. BS 1088 is a strong foundation, but confirm with your surveyor or naval architect before specifying. We provide full documentation and mill certificates on request.

Flexible Plywood

Cross-grain Ceiba construction allows this panel to bend cold without cracking or delamination. At 350 kg/m³, also the lightest panel in the range. The right choice for curved surfaces, wrapped panels, and radius joinery where adaptability and low weight are both required.

Flexible plywood can be cold-bent dry for most applications. For the 8 mm panel, lightly dampening one face before bending and clamping to a form until set will improve compliance. Allow the panel to dry fully in the bent position before releasing.

The face veneers run cross-grain relative to the inner plies — that is what enables the flexibility. Either face can be the finished side. The panel bends most easily perpendicular to the face grain direction.

Flexible plywood is rated EN 314 Class 1 — suitable for dry to lightly humid interior environments. It is not a WBP or marine-rated panel. For curved applications in wet areas, contact us to discuss the right panel for your application.

Yes. The sanded Ceiba face takes veneer, paint, lacquer, and HPL laminates well. Apply adhesive or finish after bending and setting to shape for best results. The low density means faster absorption — condition your finish coat accordingly.
